With each year, the Slovenia’s producer of light aircrafts conquers new horizons of development flying higher and higher in the sector of aircraft engineering. Last year, the Pipistrel Company signed a half billion euros worth contract with its Chinese partner thus managing to accelerate its already rapid pace of development. Pipistrel and Uber entered into a partnership to produce electric “flying taxis”. Besides, the two companies plan to launch a research programme designed for continuing development of hybrid-powered planes. Mark Moore, the Uber’s Head Manager responsible for Engineering for Aviation explains that Pipistrel is currently the only world’s company that designs, manufactures and sells electric aircrafts. The Pipistrel’s production line of fully electric planes includes two models of 2-seaters, the Taurus Electro and Alpha Electro. The world’s first four-seat hybrid propulsion aircraft was also designed and produced by the Pipistrel engineers. In 2016, Pipistrel released a four-seat plane powered by the hydrogen fuel cells. Pipistrel plans to produce the new planes ordered by Uber at its new factory in Gorizia, Italy, located just across the border with Slovenia.
