The Goriška Brda region in the western part of Slovenia has always been famous for its vineyards and culinary destinations. This year, it reports booming tourism statistics for the first six months of 2017 and in particular for the summer season. If compared to other tourism destinations of Slovenia, the region of Brda demonstrates a notable difference. Tourists tend to stay longer in this region, even for a week or two. The Head of the Brda’s tourism center, Tina Samec Novak, believes this change is probably the most significant one comparing to the previous years. It indicates that that region has much to offer its guests, and thus they wish to stay there for a longer time. Due to this fact, it becomes hard to receive a vacancy in the Brda region without making a reservation. The occupancy rate reaches almost 100% given that an average of 550 beds is currently available. The local authorities mention the need for the additional infrastructure development, while noting that avoidance of mass tourism may also feature certain advantages.
