The Year of 2018 Sets Records in the Tourism Industry of Slovenia

This year, Slovenia has been visited by over 5.6 million tourists from around the world, who spent more than 15.2 million nights in the country. Revenues from tourism in 2018 have also increased by almost 12% – to 2.12 billion euros in the first nine months.

“The fact that the year of 2018 will be a new record year is already obvious. The number of overnights exceeded the 2017 figure already at the end of October,” says the Minister of Economy, Zdravko Počivalšek, at a press conference in Ljubljana.

Such high results were achieved thanks to the cooperation of agencies and tourism organizations of Slovenia. The Head of the Slovenian Tourism Organization, Maja Pak, says that the 2018 was one of the most intense and successful years in terms of marketing. “Slovenia today is not only a recognizable, but also a fashionable trend,” she notes.

According to the Minister of Economy, next year his department will keep working on three priorities: the restructuring of state-owned travel companies, the issuance of a loan to tourism organizations for 160 million euros, and the simplification of legislation. Zdravko Počivalšek adds that the credit scheme aroused great interest among travel companies and real estate developers, and will increase the number of hotels in the country.
