Ljubljana — According to the Statistics Service, at the end of May, 87,655 people were registered in Slovenia as unemployed. The data provided by the Employment Service shows that this figure is 3.8% lower than in April and 14.3% fewer than in May 2016. In total, 5,210 persons registered for the first time in the Employment Service as unemployed in May, which is 9.1% less on the year-to-year bases and up 0.4% since April. Out of 8,642 people removed from the unemployed register in May, 6,084 persons got a new job or became self-employed, which is down 12.2% since April and down 6.8% as compared to May 2016. The majority of the newly unemployed people (2,835 persons) entered the register after the expiration of their fixed-term job contracts, 570 persons were first-time job seekers, and 919 persons were out of demand or fired from bankrupted companies.
