The Environment in Slovenia is Constantly Improving

Since 25 November, the draft report on the state of the environment has been presented for the public discussion. It reports that the sound environmental policy coupled with the tightening of the environmental legislation have significantly improved the state of the environment. The emissions of certain pollutants into the atmosphere have reduced, the waste management has improved, and the experience in solving environmental problems has grown.

However, according to the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning (MESP), a number of issues remain unresolved.

The state of environment in certain areas of Slovenia gives rise to concern due to the low quality of air and soil pollution. The sustainable use of natural resources is expected to ensure greater results across the country.

After the reports of 1996, 2003 and 2009, this is the fourth report on the state of the environment in Slovenia. It describes the state of the environment and its changes during the period of 2009–2015. The report was prepared in accordance with the requirements for reporting on the state of the environment and nature protection with regard to the Law on Environmental Protection.

Notes to the report will be accepted until 27 December 2016.
