Ljubljana — The Government of Slovenia signed a contract for the development of the western Goriško region. The contract involves three projects for a total sum of 36.5 million euros. The projects will be mainly funded by the EU and Slovenia and include a plan for upgrading the road network of the region to ensure a better communication with the central Slovenia. The other two projects include a community centre in Nova Gorica managing all organisations and institutions dealing with social services under the same roof (it will receive 1.6 million euros) and a scheme for regional scholarships (it will get 3.9 million euros). The Government of Slovenia also plans to implement two cross-border projects in the Goriško area, such as the development of green infrastructure in the valleys of the Soča, Vipava and Idrijca rivers, and taking the anti-flooding measures in the Vipava drainage area. It is also reported that the Government is to sign similar contracts with the majority of regions in Slovenia.
