The Minister of Agriculture Dejan Židan and the Minister for Food Safety of China Zhi Shuping agreed to draw up a memorandum for the simplification of Slovenian food import procedures to China.
The Food Safety Bureau of China considers the Slovenian applications on a priority basis. In the context of strengthening the Slovenian-Chinese commodity exchange, the permits for the export of Slovenian foodstuffs of animal origin are becoming of crucial importance.
Canned Fish
In Slovenia, there are two manufacturers extremely interested in exporting their products to China. It is expected that the procedure for obtaining a permit for the export of canned fish will be completed soon.
Honey
The procedure for obtaining a permit for the export of Slovenian honey in China is also at its final stage. “Today China has answered our questions concerning honey. I think that all the necessary procedures will be completed next year. There are no established standards on the wax and propolis in Europe, so the Chinese side will provide us with their own requirements. Then our experts will find out whether we meet them or not,” Dejan Židan.
Meat
The procedures for obtaining permits for the supply of pork and poultry meat are advancing according to the schedule. At present, the Chinese scientists are studying the responses received from the Slovenian side. It is planned that the review process will take place quickly enough. “With regard to poultry meat, the Chinese have also sent us a list of questions, to which we will have to provide answers. It can be assumed that as close as in the next year, the outcome of this meeting will be a possibility of expanding the exports of Slovenian products to China,” Dejan Židan said.
Slovenian Wines at the Fair in Hong Kong
On 9–10 November, Dejan Židan will be on an official visit to Hong Kong, where he will meet with the Governor of the Hong Kong administrative region, and on a visit to the opening of the International Wine & Spirits Fair, which is one of the biggest exhibitions of wine, alcoholic beverages and food products in Asia.
The exhibition will involve a number of marketing activities and addressing of experts. This is the first time when Slovenia takes part in this exhibition and thus, it has a special status of the guest country. The Slovenian delegation includes 16 wineries as well as the Berryshka and Oljarna Kocbek companies.
