The DARS Company, which manages the extensive network of Slovenian motorways, is currently cooperating with HERE Technologies to develop an advanced safety messaging service for road users. The agreement signed between DARS and HERE right on the eve of the ITS World Congress in Montreal, provides for the DARS leverage of the HERE Open Location Platform. The new platform will deliver safety-critical alerts to drivers. It will warn them about a slow or stationary vehicle, sudden traffic build-up, road works, adverse weather or any other dangerous situations. Safety on roads is of primary importance for Slovenia because this small European country links the North Adriatic region with the Alps and Eastern Europe and is one of major transportation corridors in Europe with a high density of motorways. DARS has currently launched a smartphone application, DarsTraffic+, which informs road about conditions on the road. Due to the cooperation agreement, the HERE platform will also run this application.
